The Longitudinal Seam Welder is used for resistance welding of the longitudinal edges of the panel. The seam of the panels is fed between 2 larger copper welding wheels and is driven according the required speed for welding (speed depends on the material thickness). The wheels are driven by servomotor and the weld transformer is of 3-phase balanced input giving 160-kVa capacity. Each panel edge along the longitudinal axes is welded at the same time.
The welding wheels are cooled internally, eliminating the need for water spray on the surface of the welding wheels. Since no water contacts the work piece, the panels can be stored for longer durations with significantly reduced oxidation. Due to the significant amount of heat being generated during the welding operation, a water chiller is required for cooling.
